Here's an overview of the topics and charts covered in the latest edition of the Weekly Macro Themes report. Also be sure to check out the 2018 End of Year Special Edition to see some of our best calls of last year and charts to watch for the year ahead.
This week we covered the following topics/ideas:
1. Global Lending Standards: Global lending standards eased somewhat in Q2, yet remain relatively tighter vs last year (along with policy rates) and indications are that loan demand has softened.
2. Ifo World Economic Survey: There are a couple of contradictions and disconnects within the ifo survey.
3. Consumer Sentiment: Consumer sentiment has been more resilient than business/manufacturing, and is even showing tentative signs of re-accelerating.
4. Treasuries Outlook: Though there is room to argue either way, it’s likely bond yields are too low.
5. Markets On Edge: Trade-war escalation is putting pressure on some of the fragile parts of global markets, and risk triggering a deeper selloff in risk assets.
